Black Flag : What The….. - Album review
If you follow my tumblr, you may know that Black Flag is one of my favorite bands. Their songs are fast, intense, reflect the depression, and have evolution in tones as times goes by. But, seriously, who would have thought that they gonna reunion in 2013? (and by reunion I mean only TWO members of the original era involve…Greg Ginn and Ron Reyes) Plus, they also release NEW album. Wow. That sounds weird, huh?
First of all, just look at the front cover. It’s one of the nastiest album cover I’ve seen in my life. It looks like South Park character getting possessed by the demon and spewing vomit (like in The Exorcist). And what about songs? They are NOT that bad. They sound more like a mediocre Punk band with some different style like Funk-rock…..but when you listen for 8-12 minutes you’ll notice that they are sound too similar to previous tracks. Plus, the songs don’t represent the “angry” attitude of the band at all.
The recording is kinda bad. The sound of drum isn’t clear enough while overall sound quality of instruments is muddle. Also, Ron is my least favorite lead singer of the band…so I’m not that much impressed with his vocal.
OVERALL: It’s mediocre, but you better NOT hear it….especially if you’re Black Flag fan.
PS. I heard that Ron was fired on stage last year. I have no idea how the future of Black Flag is gonna be….but, in my opinion, it’s the word that being left out of this album’s name (HINT: It begins with F) that describes their future.
